The 2012 New Member Reception (NMR) was a well attended and successful night for Golden Key at Victoria University.
A record turn out of well over 100 new members (as well as the many more who accepted their membership but couldn't attend the ceremony), was a thrill for the Executive Committee and especially for Chapter President Samuel Pearson.
"Our NMR really has gone better than expected" he said. "I'm really quite surprised that so many people not only accepted their membership, but also came along on the night. In the past, we haven't normally had so many people come, so this is great."
The induction ceremony, saw each new member presented with a certificate by Deputy vice-chancellor Prof Duncan Bentley, who also gave the key note address. In his address, he spoke about the importance of the occasion and the privilege that each had in being part of Golden Key, tying such thoughts, with the importance of education in our increasingly globalised world today.
Walking around after the ceremony, sampling the fine selection of finger-food, one could really feel the positive vibe that engulfed level 11 of 300 Flinders St. Excited chatter and smiles, mingled with proud parents and happy students.
A wonderful evening was had by all and a fine way to finish another academic year.
