On Friday 4th of February, the Victoria University Golden Key Chapter was awarded the “2010 Best Community Service Event Award” at the 2011 Golden Key Asia-Pacific Conference, held at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Over 30 other university chapters in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia competed with the Victoria University Golden Key Chapter for 5 separate titles awarded annually at Golden Key’s regional Asia-Pacific conferences.
The Victoria University Golden Key Chapter ran a series of successful community service events in 2010. The title of “2010 Best Community Service Event” was awarded for the chapter’s Literacy Pack Drive for which 1,000 literacy packs containing school stationary and materials were donated to local homework clubs serving underprivileged school children in the Western suburbs. Members of the chapter’s executive committee were commended on their initiative to contribute to the community by helping to increase literacy rates among disadvantaged children.
“It was an honour to recognise the Victoria University Golden Key Chapter for their outstanding quality of events run in 2010 and I believe that they have set an exceptional standard for other Golden Key Chapters to meet in 2011.” said Golden Key University Relations Officer Susanna Chan.
The Golden Key International Honour Society is composed of members who are in the top 15% of students across all disciplines at over 380 universities internationally. Golden Key’s mission is to help members realise their potential through the advancement of academics, community service and leadership.
